Manuel Vemba's journey in soccer is a testament to passion, resilience, and community spirit. Hailing from Angola, where soccer is more than a sport but a way of life, Manuel grew up with a deep love for the game. From playing on dirt fields with friends to participating in organized matches, soccer was always central to his life. This passion followed him as he moved from Angola to the United States, where he would continue to embrace and share the sport in new and impactful ways.
Building Soccer Roots in Maine
Manuel's journey took him to Lewiston, Maine, where he quickly recognized the growing interest in soccer among the city's diverse and multicultural population. Inspired by the power of soccer to unite people, Manuel, along with a few like-minded friends, decided to take a bold step. In 2018, they founded Maine Legends FC, a soccer club based in Lewiston.
The decision to create the club stemmed from their desire to provide a platform for local talent to grow, a space for young players to develop their skills, and a team that could compete at a high level while representing the community. They envisioned a club that would not only succeed on the field but also bring people together and foster a sense of pride in Lewiston.
Why Maine Legends FC?
The name "Maine Legends FC" was chosen to reflect their aspirations and the rich potential within the community. "Legends" symbolizes the desire to inspire greatness and to leave a legacy, both for the players and the community. It represents a commitment to excellence and a nod to the dreams of those who step onto the field, hoping to make their mark in the sport.
Expanding to Florida
After establishing Maine Legends FC, Manuel continued to deepen his connection to soccer. His passion led him to Florida, where he explored further opportunities in the sport, always carrying the values and vision of Maine Legends FC with him. Whether through coaching, organizing matches, or mentoring young athletes, Manuel's love for the game remained unwavering.
